The fire protection of wood and composite materials laboratory deals with testing the reaction to fire and fire resistance of wood and wood-based composite materials. The laboratory carries out basic and applied research, in which it closely cooperates in a national and international environment with the wood processing industry, the manufacturing sector, state administration, and other universities.
In the laboratory, there is a conical calorimeter used to measure the released heat (testing according to ISO 5660-1).
A smoke chamber (ISO 5659-2) is used to determine the optical density of smoke.
There is also equipment for testing the flammability of flooring (testing according to EN 11925-2, ISO 9239-1).
The laboratory also houses equipment for testing resistance to radiant heat (ISO 5658-2). It is also possible to measure the speed of flame propagation on vertically placed test samples (ISO 6941).
For material testing according to the ČSN 640149 standard, the device is used to determine the ignition temperature of building materials.
The test with a small flame source can be carried out with the help of equipment for determining the flammability of construction products (testing according to EN 11925-2, Reaction to fire tests – Ignitability of building products subjected to direct impingement of flame – Part 2: Single-flame source test).
There is also a device for determining the non-combustibility of material (ISO 1182).
Equipment for determining the burning behaviour of material by oxygen index (EN ISO 4589-2) is used to determine the flammability using the oxygen volume fraction method.
The laboratory also has equipment for determining the minimum ignition temperature of the dust layer (ČSN EN 50 281-2-1).
As well as the device for determining the minimum ignition temperature of flying dust (ČSN EN ISO/IEC 80079-20-2) and the device for determining the temperature of combustion (ČSN EN ISO 1716).
