Scholarships
The faculty cares about its students’ wellbeing and therefore it has an extensive scholarship programme tailored to students to help them with the economic aspect of student life. It includes a scholarship for first year students, merit scholarship, scholarship for young researchers, Dean’s Award, accommodation, sports and social scholarships.
FLD Pavilion of Wood Sciences
The faculty keeps up with new trends. Therefore, the FLD Pavilion of Wood Sciences was built in 2016. This technological, scientific and learning centre creates ideal conditions for students’ technical education and support using wood from the Czech Republic as the most important renewable resource. The Dean, Prof. Marek Turčáni, strongly advocated implementing this project.
Teaching and practice
Studying is not only about sitting in lecture halls and libraries. Apart from regular lectures, FLD students also have a number of fieldwork trips. The faculty Arboretum and Forest Establishment in Kostelec nad Černými lesy plays a significant role in this part of teaching. Thanks to this practical part of their study, students can verify their theoretical knowledge and gain a much-needed view from the other side.
Teaching of all technical subjects connected to wood processing takes place in Wood processing laboratory. There is also practical training for first year students of Wood Technology and Business in the Wood Processing and Furniture Industry Bachelor’s degree programmes. This practical training runs in blocks.
Relaxation zone
The faculty takes care of its students. To make the study day more enjoyable, a relaxation zone was created at the students’ request. It is a modern room equipped with comfortable design chairs, lockers, and a kitchenette with a microwave oven, fridge and electric kettle. Opposite the relaxation room there is the Study Administration Office.
Study abroad
Today’s basic student experience includes study or internship abroad. The faculty offers Erasmus+ programme, work internships, summer schools or Double Degree programmes, where the student gets two diplomas. The student can travel to both EU and non-EU countries. A study takes 3t–12 months, an internship usually 2–12 months and the student is entitled to a scholarship. Do you want to use a foreign language but do not wish to leave the Czech Republic for a long period of time? Then there is a study in a foreign language! The faculty offers programmes taught in English, both Bachelor and Master.
Student – a member of the academic community
For each student, the most precious thing is enthusiasm and desire to be a part of something bigger than oneself. As a member of the academic community, every student has a right to get involved in faculty life by voting for the Academic Senate.
Student Unions
Student Unions are there for everyone who wants to become a part of something fulfilling and enjoyable and develop their interests. They can take up hunting-horn playing in the Hunting-horn Union, hunting at FLD CZU Hunting Union, travelling at FLD CZU Student Interest Union, or become a science populariser thanks to a Science Popularisation project. You can get involved not only at a faculty level, but in all other activities run by the university.
Arboretum
Among other things, the fact that study and science at the faculty are directly connected to nature is proven by the Arboretum at Kostelec nad Černými lesy. It is used in dendrology lessons, and is therefore a living teaching aid; it is a part of faculty science activities, and it also has an important popular-educational role as a mediator of dendrology to the general public. Every year, its collection of woody plants is open to the public during open days.
Copy Centre
A Copy Centre located directly in the faculty building serves the practical needs of students and staff. It offers services ranging from everyday copying, scanning and printing to large format printing or graphic design of posters or presentations. It is open every working day.
Meals
Students can eat their meals at CZU Mensa on the university campus. Its food is partly subsidized by the university and therefore the prices are reasonable. Moreover, it is not necessary to order food in advance and it offers not just lunches, but also dinners.
On the university campus there are also other places to have a decent meal: a faculty buffet, various restaurants, as well as a renowned butcher’s.
Accommodation
To all students, the university offers a possibility to live at dormitories placed directly in its campus. Dormitories are allocated based on criteria set by the university, such as driving distance from home, health reasons or grades. Living at the dormitories is ideal for students who want to be able to get to school by literally a few steps and at the same time want to have the real and traditional university experience which one can get only by living at the dormitories.
Study and Information Centre
CZU campus provides students and staff with a broad range of support. An integral part is the Study and Information Centre (SIC), which functions mainly as the CZU academic library. Besides loaning books, the SIC also has several study rooms and provides Internet access and copy services. Its other services also include an e-shop (internet shop with study literature) and the issuing of identification cards.
Leisure time
For those who long for sports activities during their free time, there is a modern sports complex in the campus. It includes an indoor pool, gymnasiums, tennis courts, a football pitch and much more.
Besides sport, the students can also take part in various cultural events held by the university as well as the faculty, namely Miss Agro, faculty photo competitions, shooting competitions, exhibitions, professional lectures, exhibition openings, and a traditional Christmas concert.
Transport and parking
Students up to 26 years of age are entitled to more favourable prices with various carriers; at CZU it is possible to buy a favourable student card for travelling by Prague public transport. For CZU students as well as visitors, free parking is provided at reserved car parks within the CZU campus.
Tax relief and other benefits
Full-time students up to 26 years of age are entitled to social and health insurance benefits as well as tax deduction (doctoral study up to 28). Parents can apply a child tax deduction for a student up to 26 years of age.
