The master's study programme Wood Engineering offers two forms of study – full-time and part-time. It mainly follows on from the bachelor's fields of Wood Sciences, Business in the Wood Processing and Furniture Industry, etc. The programme is created for future employees and owners of companies focused on wood processing, designing and creating constructions of interior elements, and construction joinery production at both Czech and international level. It includes disciplines enabling graduates to directly enter practice.
The state final exam is taken before the committee. Students defend their diploma theses and take exams in four comprehensive subjects: Material in products, Sawmilling of wood, Furniture production, Organization and management of wood processing enterprises.
Graduates of the Wood Engineering master’s programme will receive the academic title Ing. and they can apply for one of the fields of doctoral study or go into practice, in particular as:
- owners or managers of companies in the field of wood processing, timber and wood commodity trading;
- staff members of scientific research institutions (universities, research institutes in the Czech Republic and abroad) and testing institutions providing the necessary certificates for the launching of products on the Czech market;
- staff members in the pre-production (storage, sorting, wood material protection, modification of wood properties, all types of wood technology) and production (large-sized structural materials, furniture industry, interior design) stages of wood processing.
The quality of FLD graduates is also evidenced by published research on the unemployment rate of university graduates. For FLD graduates, the figure has been very low for a long time; the latest figure is 1.6%.
