Fees for exceeding the standard period of study
- The basic aspects of the procedure are regulated in Section 58 of Act 111/98 Coll., on Higher Education Institutions, and, in compliance with this Act, amounts, methods of payment and due dates are stipulated in Article 19 of the CZU Constitution.
- This academic year, the fee for exceeding the standard period of study amounts to CZK 15,000.00. Further details are specified in Article 19 (4) of the CZU Constitution.
- Method of payment: by bank transfer (account number: 27-500022222/0800) or in cash at the CZU Cash Office. Students must quote the relevant identification symbols according to the Decision on Fee Assessment, delivered to students upon own receipt. After the payment, students are required to send electronically the proof of payment to the Study Department of the Rector’s Office.
- In compliance with Section 58 (7), the due date of the fee is determined in the Decision on Fee Assessment, whereas the fee is payable no earlier than 90 days of issue of the Decision concerned.
Who is obligated to pay these fees?
- Fee for exceeding the standard period of study (Section 58 (3) of the Act on Higher Education Institutions)
- This fee is paid by a student of Bachelor’s or Master’s degree study programmes who exceeds the standard period of study increased by one year (3+1 for Bachelor’s degree programmes, 2+1 for Master’s degree programmes).
- This period includes all types of study in Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programmes completed after 01 July 2001 in other than due form. The period of study includes only the portion of study after 01 July 2001.
- The total length of study does not include the period of study interruption and the day when the study was interrupted. The period when a student studied in more study programmes concurrently is included only once. In addition, the total length of study includes only the full length of those Bachelor’s and Master’s degree studies terminated unsuccessfully that were terminated after the date of successful completion of Bachelor’s or Master’s degree studies.
- The fee is assessed for a period of 6 calendar months.
- Furthermore, the following provisions apply:
- The fee must be paid by students for every type of study which is subject to the fee. If a student is registered in the same study programme for more branches of study, it is understood that the student studies in more study programmes.
- In case of transfer within of a certain type of study and a due registration of the transfer in SIMS, such study is considered as one type of study only.
- A student has no obligation to pay the fee in case of interruption of study. However, if the student has a student status even if for one day during the period that is subject to the fee, the student should contact the Study Department, Rector’s Office, in order to solve the matter regarding the fee. If the student fails to do so, CZU is entitled to enforce the payment of the fee in full.
- Decision on fee assessment for exceeding the standard period of study
- This Decision is issued 90 before the fee becomes due.
- The Decision is sent upon own receipt to the delivery address that the student is obligated to keep registered with his or her study coordinator at the Faculty and UIS.
- If a student fails to collect the Decision, the Decision will be displayed at the Faculty’s official notice board, and, on the 8th day after it is put on the official notice board, the Decision will be considered as delivered in an alternative manner.
- This Decision is issued 90 before the fee becomes due.
- Application for review of the decision, waiver, reduction of the fee, splitting the fee into two instalments or a change of due date of the fee
- An application may be filed within 30 days of the day of delivery (alternative delivery) of the decision on assessment of the fee related to study.
- An application filed after the above deadline may lead to dismissal of the application.
- An application should delivered by a student in person or using the services of the Czech Post to the Study Department, Rector’s Office.
- Reasons shown in the application must be substantiated in due form. An unsubstantiated application will be dismissed.
- Reasons for provision of a fee abatement and documents required for substantiating an application
- Burdensome social condition – confirmation issued by the Labour Office with respect to the income of the common household concerned, or a confirmation of material need benefits, child benefits, income for the last 6 months, etc. Students under 26 years of age must prove the income of both parents.
- Health disability – cards: severe health disability [ZTP], severe health disability/guide [ZTP/P].
- Long-term hospitalization or serious disease – medical reports from the hospital. Reports issued by general practitioners will not suffice.
- Necessary above-standard care of invalid or long-term ill individuals - ZTP, ZTP/P cards, medical reports, expert opinions of specialized physicians.
- Becoming an orphan during studies before the student reaches the age of 26 - certificate of death.
- Important activities beneficial for CZU or the Czech Republic (such as sports representatives of the Czech Republic).
- Excellent study results – up the study average of 1.25 for the previous period of study, in the full-time and combined forms of study.
In case a student contests the inclusion of studies completed at other higher education institutions, the student must address the matter with the respective higher education institution. An application filed after a lapse of a determined time-limit constitutes a reason for dismissals of such application.
