Two-dimensional gas chromatograph with a special mass spectrometer LECO Pegasus 4D-C
A gas chromatograph enabling complete two-dimensional separation, equipped with a mass spectrometric detector with a time-of-flight analyser, is used in the Extemit-K laboratory mainly for quantitative and qualitative description of the studied samples. An example of a quantitative analysis is the determination of the concentration of substances with a pheromone effect in extracts from beetles and from commercially available or laboratory-prepared vaporiser baits for bark beetles, or the determination of terpenic substances in the phloem of the studied trees. In the case of qualitative analysis, the profiles of recorded substances are then often processed by advanced statistical methods in order to reveal the relationships between the samples and to identify the compounds that are most important for these relationships.
