Aim of the project is to establish a new organizational unit at the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences of the CZU Prague (EVA4.0), led by excellent scientists from the USA, Europe and also CR, which will make a research in proposed areas on world level. The scientists will constitute a heart of an approximately 50-member team comprised of newly employed excellent scientists in the position of the leader of the project, leaders of three research programs, key foreign and domestic scientists (totally 17 excellent scientists) in the position of subprograms leaders and also domestic scientists (more than 25 experts) for particular scientific parts. The additional important part of the team will be highly motivated post-docs (about 20 home and foreign ones) the students of the Ph.D. study (about 30) and excellent foreign consultants (they are not employed in the project, their activities are planned in regime per diem in number around 30). The last will have important role as consultant organs, which guarantee high quality of research.
The project, thus, will help to summon necessary human resources and modern infrastructure that (except from excellent research) will enable the team to launch higher number of an international projects and publish the results of the project in top periodicals. The project is focused on current and future issues in forestry (including biological basis of forest ecosystems in temperate and exceptionally also in subtropical and tropical zones) and timber industry in the CR induced by Global Change. We are going to search for excellent, scientifically verified results necessary for including of both fields into Industry 4.0. The project emphasizes the most important areas where research is essential – in three programmes:
- Biology (program B = Program 1);
- Forestry, including decision support systems for all three programs (program L = Program 2);
- Wood Sciences (program D = Program 3).
The target research is:
Research on animals and plants in interaction to Global Change; Research on changes in production of timber and non-timber forest functions in relation to Global Change and Industry 4.0; Research on new materials and timber-based technological processes as reaction to Global Change and demands of Industry 4.0. These horizontal research lineages are horizontally connected by Research of decision support systems models in forestry and timber industry as preparation to Global Change and demands of Industry 4.0.
