The aim of the presented research proposal is to determine the effect of the presence of deciduous trees in mixed forests on the attractiveness decrease of Norway spruce (Picea abies) in natural habitats for bark beetles. The study will be solved in three levels, which follow each other and confirm hypotheses by both laboratory and field experiments: a) organism level; b) level of forest stand; c) landscape level. Based on the repellent properties of deciduous tree volatiles for spruce bark beetles, it will be determined what optimal percentage of spruce in mixed forests can be protected by volatiles of non-host trees. A methodology for new target tree compositions will be developed.
