Electroantenograph for connecting of the entire insect antennae (GC-EAD)
The device consists of a gas chromatograph (GC) and a biological detector (EAD), which is an isolated insect antennae connected by two microelectrodes to the measuring apparatus (amplifier, A/D converter, PC). The equipment includes a high-quality stereomicroscope, under whose control the electrodes fixed in the micromanipulators are connected to the antennae. The sensor is stimulated by substances that come from the gas chromatogram. The device is used to find out which of the volatile substances from the analyzed samples (for example, from essential oils) are perceived by the probe connected between the electrodes. GC-EAD helps to identify substances that insects perceive by smell and which can therefore influence their behavior.
